Haus Furggaleidis

Switzerland

New Construction, 2022

Info

The house stands on a slope in the Swiss region of Prättigau, flanked by gnarled trees, between unspoilt nature and rural farmland. It fits into the urban context in the north of the small street village of Buchen, with a gable roof that runs along the contour lines. Its design could be described as reduced regionalism, a style for which Switzerland is famous across the world: architecture that always responds to the specific, local situation, which blends in with its surroundings and is not backward-looking, but instead timeless. The solar panels on the large, sunlit roof surface are a contemporary feature.
The living space on the top floor is defined by a long, glazed frontage that frames a view to the west. Deep windowsills create seating areas that carry on towards the south-west in the large covered outdoor space linked to the dining room. With its clear lines, high-quality simplicity and clean detailing in a consistent grid, Haus Furggaleidis is a gem of a house that could be overlooked at first glance because its elegant understatement keeps the focus on the setting.
